Educator Resource Guide – Jewish American Heritage Month, Classroom Poster Series (Free Download).

This document is a toolkit to accompany a five-part series of Jewish American Heritage classroom posters. The Educator Resource Guide provides biographical information for the Jewish Americans featured in the series and links to related lesson plans and educational resources. Included in the series: Bob Dylan; Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Louis D. Brandeis; Bella Abzug, Betty Friedan, and Gloria Steinem; Emma Lazarus; Jack Kirby and Stan Lee.

From a poem about refuge inscribed at the Statue of Liberty (“The New Colossus”) to Marvel Comics heroes and villains, Jews have made integral and enduring contributions to American culture. This classroom poster series brings Jewish American stories directly to students through accessible, visually engaging entry points.

The Jewish Americans on these posters—and their stories—address core themes of Ethnic Studies through the prism of Jewish American memory, identities, and experiences.

These posters highlight voices from the arts (Bob Dylan, Emma Lazarus, Stan Lee & Jack Kirby) because storytelling—whether through music, poetry, comics, performance—translates powerful historical themes into forms that resonate with students today.

These posters amplify Jewish Americans who made significant and lasting contributions to law, policy, and public debate (Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Louis D. These posters rediscover Jewish American writers, innovators, and change-makers (Gloria Steinem, Betty Friedan)—Americans who penned phrases that live on in our national consciousness today. Teaching and understanding these legacies embeds, contextualizes, and affirms that Jewish stories are integral to modern American culture, society, and history.

As the United States approaches its 250th anniversary, Jewish American Heritage Month (JAHM) offers a timely opportunity to highlight the enduring contributions of Jewish Americans to the nation’s history, values, and civic life.
