ABOUT: The labor revolt of 1878, known as the Fireburn, happened on the island of St. Croix in the Danish West Indies (now known as the U.S. Virgin Islands). It was a watershed event that helped shape people’s lives, as well as the economy of the region. This 21-minute short documentary explores the inhumane conditions that existed prior to the labor revolt and looks at the women who were called “Queens” due to their leadership.
